"A Warrior Will Die for One Who Understands Him" is the 17th episode of the "Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki" Anime adaptation.

Souma is victorious in both the Elfrieden civil war and the battle against Amidonia. However, his victory was won as a result of the devotion of a man named Georg. Still, the law is the law, and Souma must pass down a harsh judgement against Georg.

Summary[]

Souma visits Georg, who congratulate him on the win. Souma asks him if he is going to meet with Liscia, but Georg states there is no point for the future queen to show concern for a criminal. Souma knows that Liscia is hiding it, but she is shaken up by Georg's situation. Georg asks Souma what happened to the soldiers who followed him in the rebellion. Souma explains they have been cleared of any charges after their exploits in the fighting against Amidonia. Castor Vargas and Carla Vargas will answer for their crimes later. The Vargas Duchy is abolished, but the eldest son, Carl Vargas, is carrying the family name and is allowed to inherit Red Dragon City. The nobles were stripped of their family names, their lands and possessions confiscated, and then executed. Souma regrets that many innocent were caught in it, due to the nobles not cutting ties with their families earlier. Georg cites the royal law that traitors and their kin up to the third degree shall be executed. Souma agrees the others are guilty for not having stopped them, but believes third degree is a bit much. Georg points out that can't be helped as there are some long-living races and their scope of association grows wider. Souma is still angry that so many innocent need to die and that he scrambled with Hakuya to get the law revised to two degrees. Georg asks Souma if it pains him to take the lives of others and as Souma confirms, Georg states he received a letter from Liscia, where she praised and supports him. Souma states he will have to make a decision that will make Liscia grief, as he needs to kill Georg. Souma praises him for the plan, saying it was the best for the kingdom, but it can't be made public. Souma is angry that Georg is sacrificing himself and have his name tarnished, and asks him if this is what he really wanted. Castor followed him due to their old friendship and became a traitor. Souma had plans for Georg, and while what he did helped the kingdom immensely and Souma stocks raised, Souma questions it if its worth it without Georg. Georg tells him he is consent will all of this and that one day Souma will also feel the joy of feeling strength from the next generation.

Souma asks Georg if he came up with all of this by himself. As Georg hold Souma in high esteem and entrust the kingdom and Liscia to him, Souma finds it strange and asks if the plan he carried is under Elfrieden's royalty orders. Georg wishes to remain silent, but Souma wants to know what they and he knows. However, Georg states they will tell him when time comes. Souma then leaves poisoned wine, saying that he doesn't wish to see a man like him getting publicly executed. Souma will offer the same thing to those that sacrificed themselves for Georg, which is a small senior staff including Georg's second-in-command, Beowulf. As Georg gets confirmation from Souma that he will protect Liscia, he drinks the wine.

Jeanne had send communication devices to Elfrieden and speaks with Hakuya, informing him that Maria had accepted all of Souma's proposals. She shares that can't wait for Maria and Souma to talk with each other as Maria is pleased that there is someone who understands her. Seeing the books behind Hakuya, he explains that those are the Van books and Souma tasked him to copy them before they return it to Van. Realizing Hakuya loves books, Jeanne offers him chief librarian post at the imperial library, but Hakuya ends up refusing, wishing to stay with Souma and retire one Souma's heirs take the throne. After the talk with Jeanne, Hakuya is informed that all is going a little too smoothly, feeling someone else's will is at work. Hakuya then continues to check the books, but guesses there is no other books mentioning Amidonian Royal Family tree. He then discovers a bronze racoon drawing, commenting there is no shortage in talent in Amidonia.

Elsewhere, Gatsby tells Roroa she isn't allowed to go out, reminding her it was her idea that they shouldn't move until Van situation settles down. As Roroa is bored, Gatsby tells her to think of Amidonia's future, but Roroa comments that includes her future husband, causing Gotsby to feel sorry for her future husband.

At a ceremony, Glaive Magna is granted Randel and the territory surrounding it and portion of the authority that Georg held. Aisha Udgard is formally granted the rank of King's Personal Guardian. Souma wishes to do something for Wodan Udgard, who even though were dealing with disaster recovery, managed to send reinforcements. Wodan then asks Souma if he can take Aisha as a wife and second queen. Liscia tells Souma to do it, stating that there may be times where he may have to marry daughters of aristocrats or foreign princesses, so if that happens, she wants to be sure that the top-ranked queens are those she knows well. Liscia tells Aisha that she has no intention giving up the throne as first queen and if Aisha have no objection, she welcomes her. As Aisha is fine with that, Souma asks her if she will be his wife and she happily accepts.

Excel Walter notices that Juna Doma feels down. As Juna turns come to receive a reward for her loyalty and achievements, she has a specific request, but Excel interrupts her, wishing to speak up. Excel states that Juna is her granddaughter, but her father is a merchant from Lagoon City, which makes Juna of commoner's lineage. Excel realized that Juna intends to use her achievements request to mitigate measurements against Castor and Carla, but she needs to use her achievements for her own ends. Juna then asks Souma if she could become his wife as well. However, Souma states he can't do it, as she is the Gemstones program's Prima Lorelei, and as she is popular, violence could break out in the capital if they hear she is engaged. Souma asks her if she could wait a bit longer and as she is still needed for the program. And once they have more singers who can carry on the tradition, he will come for her then.

Elsewhere, at a secret meeting, a man tells everyone that the king had gained momentum and they have no choice but to obey him. However, they will keep moving in the shadows, keeping low profile and control the country from behind the scenes.
