Summary[]
Gaius and his men begin hurrying back to Van with the men exhausted. Julius notices this and tells his father to slow down. He mentions that they can ask another country for help if Van falls. Julius knows that the Elfrieden Kingdom didn't sign the mankind declaration act but Gaius says that the Gran Chaos Empire could put the Principality of Amidonia as a vassal state after the war if they got help now.
Gaius loses most of his men to an ambush led by Juna Doma. Gaius and Julius manage to get away with some disposable soldiers. Juna takes the men who are still alive as war prisoners while the dead are buried. Gaius and Julius conscript more men and raid villages for supplies but arrive too late as the Elfrieden army was waiting for them. They were in better condition thanks to Poncho Panacotta's provisions. Souma signals the start of the battle.
