The Monster Encyclopedia is a fictional book within the Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki series detailing and naming the monsters that have appeared across Landia from both the Demon Lord's Domain and dungeons. It was primarily authored by Ichiha Chima with support from Hakuya Kwonmin and funded by Kazuya Souma.

Origin[]

The Monster Encyclopedia started as merely a collection of sketches by Ichiha of the monsters that he witnessed attacking the Duchy of Chima. Eventually, he began to notice patterns in these monsters based on the various body parts that were attached to more recognizable base forms. Unfortunately, Ichiha's observations went unnoticed due to the more practical applications of his elder siblings talents.

Ichiha was accidentally discovered by Tomoe when she got lost in the Duchy's castle and though she could not explain why, she saw value in his sketching and introduced him to Kazuya. Kazuya likewise recognized Ichiha's talent as valuable, and made moves to have Ichiha return to Friedonia. After arriving, Kazuya had Hakuya work with Ichiha to consolidate and refine his work, resulting in the Monster Encylopedia.

Impact[]

The Monster Encyclopedia was an immediate success, with it being purchased by every country and by the Adventurer's Guild. It became the most prominent work on what came to be dubbed 'Monsterology.' This is primarily because of two factors; the naming of monsters and the Monster Part Index (MPI).

Before the release of the Monster Encyclopedia, there was no formalized system for the classification of monsters. Sightings were reported and contained complex descriptions in an attempt to attribute all features. This created long messages when, by simply naming a monster and knowing its description, the same information could be conveyed. The reasoning that this had not fully occurred beforehand was due to the pressures of all religions in Landia having strong aversions to all monsters and all information about monsters. This stagnated the growth of understanding, and was pointed out as a reason that more people were likely injured by monsters during the Monster Symposium held at the Royal Academy.

The Monster Part Index, or MPI, is the end result of Ichiha's observations that started in his sketches. The MPI formulated a classification system for monsters and aided in identifying valuable monster parts for adventurers to return with.
