Naden Delal (ナデン・デラール, Naden Derāru) later renamed as Naden Delal Souma (ナデン・デラール・ソーマ, Naden Derāru Sōma), is one of the female protagonist of Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki series.
She was one of the dragons in the Star Dragon Mountain Range who Souma met when he was invited personally by the Mother Dragon, Tiamat, for the Contract Ceremony. She later became Souma's fifth wife and the 2nd secondary queen.
Appearance[]
Naden has black hair and was usually seen wearing a black one-piece. There were deer-like antlers growing out of her voluminous black hair on either side of her head, and a black tail sprouting from her rear end. At first glance, she seems to be around fifteen years old. She was short, and looked underdeveloped. However, when looked at in profile, her young face had a hint of beauty, and if she dressed right, she would probably look very cute.[1]
Personality[]
Prior to meeting with Souma E. Friedonia, Naden was an introverted dragon with low self-esteem, due to the fact that she lacked wings as a dragon and believed that she couldn't fly. She spent most of her time reading books and watching programs on the Jewel Voice Broadcast. She gained more confidence in herself after meeting with Souma.
Biography[]
Naden, like all dragons, was born in the Star Dragon Mountain Range but unlike others lacked wings and thus she didn't know how to fly. She spent most of her time reading human books mainly of the romance genre but also read adventure books. She also bought a broken Jewel Voice Broadcast receiver that played broadcasts from the Gran Chaos Empire.
Her inability to fly resulted in her being bullied by other dragons mainly the gang led by Ruby and her only friend was Pai Long.
Naden was chosen by Mother Dragon to participate in the Dragon Contract Ceremony set to occur in the spring of 1547, but Naden consistently doubted that she, a dragon who couldn't fly or breathe fire, would be selected by a human to form a contract. She was unaware that Mother Dragon had specially requested that Kazuya attend the Contract Ceremony as a participant, likely knowing that Kazuya would know Naden was not a western-style dragon but rather a ryuu. Mother Dragon would encourage Naden through cryptic messages that she would indeed be chosen by a human, to which Naden responded by stopping her own preparation lessons for the ceremony.
When Kazuya was expediently brought to the Star Dragon Mountain Range ahead of schedule due to the approaching Storm Crisis, Mother Dragon had Naden serve as tour guide for him. He was able to instantly identify that Naden was a ryuu and began explaining that she was indeed a dragon, just not one like the others. This lesson had the greatest effect on Naden when Kazuya verbally parried one of Ruby's attempts to bully Naden, saying that it was because of her uniqueness that she was valuable. Kazuya would go on to teach Naden how to fly by having her swim up a waterfall with her eyes shut. Upon opening them, she found herself swimming through the sky and has thus been able to fly since. At this time Naden began to believe that Kazuya was the one that would choose her at the Ceremony.
During a brief trip with Kazuya to Friedonia, Naden learned that Kazuya was the king, as he had been going by a false name with Naden until that point. Naden and Kazuya would return to the Star Dragon Mountain Range during the Storm Crisis and together with Halbert, Ruby, and the dragons, work to stop the damage occurring to the plateau. After the crisis was averted, Naden and Kazuya participated in a separate Dragon Contract Ceremony. Due to the nature of the ceremony, Naden thus became Kazuya's second secondary queen consort.
After moving to the castle in Parnam, Naden would go on to utilize her ability to predict weather around Friedonia (with Kazuya riding her) and give a weekly forecast for the kingdom during the news segments of routine Jewel Voice Broadcasts. Because of her nature as a dragon and despite her position as queen consort, she is allowed to wander, explore, and take action as she sees fit without escort. Naden has used this freedom to routinely help various persons around Parnam.
Naden officially married Kazuya alongside Liscia, Aisha, Roroa, and Juna on the day of his official coronation. When not engaged with other duties, she has acted as a bodyguard on some of Kazuya's adventures beyond the castle. She served as the visible queen during Kazuya's trip to the Mercenary State Zem since Aisha served as bodyguard.
Naden, alongside Aisha and Juna, was selected to accompany Kazuya during their covert mission to the Nine Headed Dragon Archipelago. As the colder temperature there was slightly debilitating to her, Naden served as a chaperone for Tomoe and the stowaway Yuriga. During the naval battle which followed, she was deployed with Kazuya to rescue people from the ocean and to attempt to save sinking ships.

Dragon Powers[]
Like all dragons, Naden can change her form from dragon to humanoid and back. Her dragon form is that of a ryuu and therefore does not have wings.
- Flight: Naden's ryuu form is capable of 'flying' through the air. However, her method of flight is different as she does not use wings for propulsion. She actually keeps herself aloft by some form of magic, and 'swims' through the air currents like a fish swimming through water. Due to her streamlined body, she is capable of flying through rough storms that would give winged dragons like Ruby difficulty without a Little Susumu Propulsion device.
- Speed: Though her top speed is unknown, she is capable of traveling from the Star Dragon Mountain Range to Friedonia in under 2 hours. She is also capable of moving on the ground at high speeds.
- Lightning/Electricity: Unlike other dragons who can breathe fire, Naden is able to store and discharge considerable amounts of electricity and control the intensity of her shocks. She has claimed to be able to stun or paralyze other dragons, and can even turn on broken receivers. Souma is very interested in her electrical power and sees many uses and innovations for it.
- Rider Protection: Like all contracted dragons, Naden is able to protect her rider, namely Kazuya, from falling off her back and keep air friction, altitude sickness, G-Forces, and air pressure from affecting him. Other riders, such as Aisha Udgard, must withstand such effects on their own.
- Weather Prediction: The whiskers on Naden's ryuu form are sensitive to air currents and are able to accurately predict future storms. This makes her perfect for the role of weather forecaster.
Weaknesses[]
Like all dragons, Naden has a weakness towards extreme cold and is not suited for winter weather.
