Ruby (ルビィ, Rubyi) later renamed as Ruby Magna (ルビィ・マグナ, Rubyi Maguna), is a recurring character of Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki series.
Appearance[]
In dragon form, Ruby takes the appearance of a red western-style dragon. In human form, Ruby is stated to be a young woman, have defiant eyes, and long, curly red hair. As with other dragons in human form, she has a tail that sticks out behind her that is red in color and horns that protrude from her head.
Personality[]
When Ruby first appears in the novels, she is antagonistic to Naden, being one of the few dragons to outright insult and bully her for her different appearance. She acts in a superior manner, which Naden tended to fight back against. During the Storm Crisis in the Star Dragon Mountain Range, Ruby is attacked physically by many of the other dragons for seemingly driving Naden away, and is reflective of her past actions. She resolves to restore her honor as a dragon. Since becoming contracted with Halbert Magna, she has developed a caring attitude towards others, including Naden. However, Ruby still considers herself to be a rival to Naden, which the other accepts.
Biography[]
It is unknown how long Ruby sat as an egg or who her parents were, but like Naden was likely relatively recently hatched as the time of her rider appeared. Whatever the case, it is evidenced that she was set to be a participant in the Contract Ceremony occurring in the spring of 1547.
Ruby, along with her friends Sapphire and Emerada, were confrontational towards Naden in their early lives, which dramatically increased as the Contract Ceremony grew closer. She would later explain that she was more direct about her bullying attitude as it was more in line with who she thought she was, as opposed to the majority of dragons who simply whispered their insults to each other about Naden. After an introspective glance at herself, Ruby would determine that she was in fact jealous of Naden as Naden was unique, whereas she was normal for a dragon.
This introspective glance was brought around first when confronted by Kazuya's questioning of what made Ruby special versus what made Naden special. It was secondly brought around as she accepted the physical violence of her fellow dragons, also taking the punishment they intended to direct towards Sapphire and Emerada, for seemingly driving Naden away when Tiamat mentioned that only Naden could save them. It was finally brought about by Naden herself when she shouted at both Ruby and the others about how she truly felt.
As Kazuya and Naden went off to try and prevent the Storm Crisis from becoming worse, Ruby was approached by Halbert, who helped give her the new purpose for restoring her honor as a dragon. To do this, she begged Halbert to help her aid Naden in some way, knowing that it might mean that he would ride on her back, a sign of a contracted knight and dragon. Halbert was at first reluctant, but agreed to assist her without thinking about the future ramifications. Together, Ruby and Halbert were able to assist Kazuya and Naden in a small manor. Afterwards, as Kaede chastised Halbert for his unthinking actions, simultaneously revealing their own engagement, Ruby was embarrassed knowing that she would now be engaged to Halbert. However, Kaede accepted Ruby as Halbert's second wife. Because of her position as second wife, she takes a bit of a subservient role to Kaede.
After returning with the group to Friedonia, Ruby would join the military, with a special subordinate rank to Halbert specifically. She would accompany the military on the mission to aid Lastania and Chima.
Ruby married Halbert, at the same time as Kaede did, on the same day as Kazuya's coronation and wedding, in the joint celebration that occurred across Parnam. Together the three honeymooned near Venetinova. Ruby seems excited about Kaede's current pregnancy, but has taken on a more primary role in controlling Halbert since. Ruby also seems to be taking a more womanly form when transforming into a human, much to Naden's dismay.
Ruby is currently alongside Halbert, typically training with the dratroopers.
