Tomoe Inui (トモエ・イヌイ, Tomoe Inui) is a recurring character of Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki series.
Appearance[]
Tomoe is a member of the mystic wolf race of beastmen. As such, she has wolf ears atop her head and a fluffy tail. She is said to have small, round eyes and suntanned skin.
As a refugee, she initially had a rather haggard appearance, like many others, with notably frayed clothing. After being taken in by the palace, she wardrobe correspondingly changed.
Personality[]
When Tomoe is first introduced, she has a very timid and shy personality. When her gift was presented to Kazuya, she notably stuttered and slurred her words as she spoke in a forced manner. This was likely due to the combination of her age, origin, and general nervousness at the time.
Since being taken in by Kazuya, Tomoe has exhibited growth, becoming more outgoing and courageous. She has, at times, taken personal initiative in order to self-justify the opportunities that have been granted to her. Though she is still timid at times and does not enjoy being the center of attention, she has been steadily overcoming her fears.
Biography[]
Tomoe Inui, along with her mother, Tomoko, and her brother, Rou, was a refugee from the northern area that is now the Demon Lord’s Domain. Her father died of illness soon after Rou was born. There used to be a country of the mystic wolf race there, but like many others the country has been destroyed and overrun. Together with her family and other members of the mystic wolf race, Tomoe eventually made her way to the Kingdom of Elfrieden before Kazuya’s summoning.
When Kazuya called for the gathering of capable people, Tomoe would go on to present her gift, the ability to speak to animals, to the kingdom. In order to test her gift, she communed with horses about their health and history. Due to the unique nature of her gift, she was to be specially awarded over a Jewel Voice Broadcast alongside four others: Aisha Udgard, Hakuya Kwonmin, Juna Doma, and Poncho Panacotta. It was during this ceremony that she silently revealed to Kazuya that she could also speak to demons, causing an emergency pause to the ceremony as he discussed this revelation with Liscia, Marx, and Ludwin.
Due to the potential upheaval that this information could cause, it was quickly decided that Tomoe should be brought under the protection of the palace. Since it would look suspicious to have a commoner like her in the palace, she would need to be taken into the royal family in some way. As they were yet to be wed, Liscia and Kazuya opted not to adopt her and Kazuya would also refuse to take Tomoe as a bride. It was decided that Elisha and Albert would instead adopt her, making her Liscia’s younger sister and Kazuya’s sister-in-law. Tomoe would initially object to this arrangement, citing her mother still being in the refugee camp, but when it was explained that it was more of a formality, she would accept.
Tomoe and her family were taken into the protection of the palace and have gone on to live and serve there. Tomoe has gone on several of Kazuya’s international excursions, including to the Republic of Turgis and Nine Headed Dragon Archipelago. Though she was brought on the trip, Tomoe did not make it to the Star Dragon Mountain Range as the situation there had changed. During trips, she has been assigned a personal bodyguard from the Black Cats, Beowulf. Tomoe has taken to looking at Beowulf as a sort of father figure rather than simply a bodyguard as he has taught her various things.
Tomoe would play an important role during the Friedonian military’s operation to support the Union of Eastern Nations during the demon wave attack. In Lastania, she would use her ability to commune with a lizardman, establishing a motive for their attack and enabling countermeasures to be formulated. She would also be important in the Duchy of Chima, as her exploration led to the chance encounter with Ichiha Chima. Though she did not fully understand why herself, Tomoe recognized Ichiha’s talents and brought him to Kazuya, who agreed with her assessments.
Tomoe has served as the first pupil of Hakuya and was later joined by Ichiha and Yuriga. Though noted by Hakuya as not necessarily being as clever as to succeed him, Tomoe did score high enough on the entrance exams to make the top class at the Royal Academy. Due to her position, she is a popular figure at the academy, much to her chagrin.
When not accompanying Kazuya on trips where her ability is needed, Tomoe is currently attending the Royal Academy with her friends Ichiha, Yuriga, Lucy, and Velza.
